Elderly Activities Area
Activities focus on maintaining fitness through regular exercises, creating or strengthening a personal social network through a wide range of social activities, and expanding and exploring personal interests through a variety of leisure experiences, as well as maintaining daily living activities. The intent is to switch from a highly structured program focused on goal-oriented activities to relatively unstructured activities, leaving participation and involvement largely to the individual. The program is designed to offer seniors experiences that will help in the transition to retirement type programs in the community. Program components contain a variety of daily activities, including health and sensory awareness, recreation and leisure activities, skill and alertness enhancement, socialization, and individual or group interactions. The Elderly Activities Area provides personal support built around a full schedule of daily activities for older adults served by Black Hills Workshop in Rapid City, SD. These supports are designed to respect each person’s history, desires, and preferences. Our focuses are on areas such as expanding or preserving personal control, maintaining personal connections and relationships, as well as broadening and strengthening options for leisure time.
